为了让大家更好地了解E妹妹,特附上她的原创版。 I went hiking in Da Ya Wan, and I tell you it was the best way to cap the year.
Joy invited me to go hiking with her. I was told that we will walk along the coastline. Being a foreigner gives me a lot of excuse to explore places and a whole lot more reasons to just go and find out what’s in every corner of Shenzhen. Thus, knowing what a coastline is, I willingly obliged to join her, since I really want to see what Shenzhen has to offer.
Nancy, our colleague is also joining the trip. We stayed at Joy’s place that Saturday night and were told that we will meet the others at the stadium the next morning at around 7:30 am. We had a very nice dinner albeit the broccoli missing in the order, the glass noodles were good and very tasty! In a capsule, our dinner was Hao Chi!
Nancy and I stayed late that night, we talked until 2 am. We talked about so many things, and that is one of the reasons why we both have headache the next day.
We left for the stadium at around 7:15am from Joy’s place and reached the meeting place on time. People were already gathered in that spot near the sculpture. He Ma Da Shu handed me and Nancy a pocket knife as souvenir. I kept it immediately for safekeeping.
We hopped on a small bus and headed off. We had to pick up someone in Lu Hou so we had to stop for a teensy bit. After that it was a smooth drive.
Chi Pa Jiu (789)talked in Chinese and Nancy translated that we had to introduce ourselves. With that I got a little nervous, I am really not good with introductions and I don’t know Chinese thus I have to speak in English. I introduced myself and I think it’s ok since everybody warmed up after that.
We passed by Da Mei Sha and I saw Sheraton, but Nancy told me that it’s a long way from there and we can still sleep. Sleep we did. A few more minutes later the bus stopped and everybody got off, and Joy said that we have arrived. I saw the coast. It was a beauty so I imagined walking along the sandy path for the next six hours. Lo and behold, we deviated from the sand and started climbing. As I climbed I said to myself maybe we need to cross this hill and start the walking from there, so climbed I did. To my surprise, when we reached the top of the hill, I was told that we will walk around the coastline and yes….it is a RUGGED COASTLINE!
It is a new experience so I had to reset my thinking…I have to say to myself that I will be walking along stones and climbing cliffs and mountains NOT SAND! I could say I am not prepared for the trip but I think I am ready. I used to climb in Manila and I also go diving so the thrill of seeing the sea and the mountains brought good memories (thanks JOY!). Thirty minutes into the hike, I sprained my ankle, but I didn’t tell the group (I am sorry!), I don’t want to be a bother and besides I am enjoying what I am seeing. No matter how painful it is, for as long as I am enjoying everything around me I will press on. It’s just minor anyway. The best part of the trip was climbing cliffs and seeing how far you’ve walked and how far you still need to go. I liked it when He Ma Da Shu said that Da Ya Wan is the most beautiful coastline in China, I couldn’t agree more and I really am thankful that I was there to see it. Lunch came in at 12 noon, we were met by the other group, we had a wonderful lunch but I really don’t eat when I go climbing, because my stomach will act up. Lunch was good, watermelons, oranges, noodles, sausages all were sliced and prepared. Egg rolls were passed and so were some biscuits, bread and sweets.
The cave where we stayed in for lunch was soon filled with people. It seemed that everybody went to Da Ya Wan that day. There’s only enough space to handle 3 groups inside the cave, so others had to go and find their own spot elsewhere. Joy and Nancy told me that the place we are staying at is already part of Hong Kong…ok, we just need to swim some more then we really are in HK. We continued walking at half past one. I really enjoyed the last stop, I took off my shoes and went to the jagged rocks, and waves were crushing it furiously. I changed to my slippers and started walking near the edge. Actually I needed it to relieve my swelling ankle. I couldn’t tell anybody or else it will spoil everything. Off we went after a few minutes of rest. Nancy pressed on and was way ahead. Joy and I started collecting pebbles. We were picking and throwing at the same time. I even said to Joy…”If these stones could talk, they would probably shout at us and tell us that we are hurting them with all the throwing”.
We saw Nancy and the rest of the group, we walked rather slowly. I for one walked slowly because I am trying to remember how wonderful the last six hours were. I met new friends, forgive me because I only know a few, but I can vividly recall your faces. I am good with names, but since everybody is moving I couldn’t do name association at that time. I will forever remember this experience, as I’ve said, this is the best way to cap 2007. So many things happened in 2007 and one of which is transferring to China, moving out of my country to really live my life. I liken the hike to my experience. Now as a new year begins, a new chapter will slowly unfold, and like me on top of the cliff, I can see clearly how far I’ve come and how much longer I will go. To this I will always remember what a friend said…” We all have our own mountains to conquer and conquering it and seeing how far and how big you have achieved is the best experience”. China is a very big mountain for me to conquer, but with friends, who will show me how to experience it will make it less scary. Hope to see you soon and thank you for sharing me this very wonderful place. REGARDS, Ellen
